Plastiki
March 26th, 2009 Comments 1

“Plastiki,” a 60-foot catamaran made from recycled plastic (except for the masts), will be used by British environmentalist David de Rothschild, author of Live Earth Global Warming Survival Handbook to sail from San Francisco to Australia: an 18,000km voyage!
The boat is made up of about 16,000 plastic bottles and is an “effort to raise awareness of the recycling of plastic bottles, which are a symbol of global waste,” says Rothschild. The boat has skin-like panels made from recycled PET, a woven plastic fabric that will cover the hulls, and a watertight cabin which sleeps four. Only about 10 percent of the Plastiki will be made from new materials.

Welcome to The Project!

Friends,
It’s been a long time coming, but ‘The Project’ is finally here.
Over the last couple of years, what started out as a conversation between my pastor and I about environmental stewardship, has evolved into what is now ‘The Project.’
‘The Project’ is a lot of things. I attempt to explain it here
Part of what defines ‘The Project’ is that it is an experiment. This means that it is constantly changing, evolving and being moulded by lessons learned, conversations had, and input offered. This is where you come in. I’d love to hear what you think, if you agree or disagree with anything, or if you want to contribute, or add anything. If nothing else, my hope is that ‘The Project’ will begin a dialogue, and I invite you to be a part of that conversation.
What you are reading is ‘The Project’ blog. If you’d like to stay updated on everything related to ‘The Project’, or if you’d like to hear reviews, some commentary on faith, culture, and all the topics explored on the website, then please subscribe to this blog by clicking here, or just come and visit every so often. Also, I’m keen to receive blog submissions by anyone who finds anything interesting that is related to ‘The Project’, or anyone who might want to write an article and have it put on the blog.
It’s been an interesting journey wading through the complicated world of web design, but I hope you like the final product. Thanks to those of you who helped make this happen (Josh, Pat, Kent, Bec, Kym & others).
Enjoy!
